We were out of the house most of Saturday, so when we got home, I went to the basement to do some laundry. I found a trail of water running from the wall where the main water line enters the house, through the family room, and into the laundry room floor drain. I told my husband, Kim, about the problem, then went outside to shut off the water at the irrigation boxes. Upon opening them, I found them full of water, with the water still rushing out. Kim tried to turn off the water at the street, and managed to slow it down, but we called the water department to get it fully shut off.

Since Shovel & Thumb had just finished landscaping our front yard, including modifications to the irrigation boxes, I contacted Nico via text and emailed Durant about what was going on. The pipe fitting that joined modern pex tubing to the old galvanized pipe had broken. Nico called immediately, but I missed his call because I’d left my phone in another part of the house. When I picked it up, I had a voicemail and a text from Nico asking me to call back. When I did, he told me that Durant should be arriving at any time, and he’d be coming later because he was going to get parts for the repair.

Well, I certainly didn’t expect that. I was hoping that maybe someone could come out on Sunday afternoon, but thought it was more likely to be Monday, if we were lucky. But they came as soon as they could on Saturday night. And they fixed the pipe. And they were here until after 9:30 pm. On the night of a daughter’s birthday. Customer service? Oh, yes! Honestly, I was in awe. I am so grateful for their immediate response to my communications, and their hard work to get our water pipe repaired on a Saturday night.
