So, I really hate to write reviews, I always have so much going on lately. However, Shovel and Thumb, especially Anthony and Nico, have gone out of their way to hook me up and deserve the highest of praise! Anthony first helped me to order sod and then later set me up with Nico to have him come out and look at an issue on my property. The sod quality and delivery was stellar. Anthony was so helpful, working with me to decide what sod would best grow best in my backyard. He nailed it! Nico came out weeks later, to ascertain whether or not there was an issue with drainage on a poorly built paver patio done by a crooked "contractor" we unfortunately hired. They did not have to come out here and look at something they had nothing to do with, but they did. The customer service is beyond exceptional! I wish I had hired them to do the landscaping/hardscaping! I knew our budget was too depleted because of all the work we had to do before we even moved in. Hindsight is 20/20 though, now we know. Anyway, Nico also helped out with other issues on the same property that he also didn't have to address, but did! If you're on the fence about hiring them for ANYTHING, just do it. You're going to get what you pay for. Quality products/installations and excellent customer service, period! Thank you Shovel and Thumb, I will always be grateful and recommend you to anyone needing top-notch, high-end landscaping/hardscaping services!

I can't say enough of how I appreciate this company. Shovel and Thumb did a side yard and front yard landscape design that I am sooo pleased and proud of.

The crew that was sent out were so polite and professional. They kept me informed every step of the way.

Cohan brought out the plants and trees for the project and did not plant them until I saw the placements. He even moved some at my request.

My neighbors still comment on this wonderful job today! The project was done in June 2025. We did lose a few plants to the heat and Cohan immediately said he would replace these. They will do that this spring.

I have two other projects that I will be doing next fall and will certainly contact this company again.

We wanted to make a major transformation of our very bland backyard and Shovel & Thumb came highly recommended. Cohan came out and helped us visualize and create the perfect solution for our yard. Shovel & Thumb replaced our broken front walkway with pavers. They did a fantastic job and it looks great. The crew was super friendly and professional and our dog loved greeting them each morning. I will definitely have them bid on future projects if needed. Highly recommend!

Shovel and thumb was amazing to work with, and Brian helped educate me on how to properly plant certain types of plants to help them survive in my clay based soil. I appreciate all the help and the ease of working with everyone there.

Shovel & Thumb not only built our retaining wall but improved on our vision or having a usable side yard. Now our house foundation is more secure and we gained valuable usable outdoor space. Oh yea, and i'm pretty pickey about the fit and finish of a project like this and they knocked it out of the park. Very Highly recommended!

I bought a hydrangea from Lowe's, but couldn't find another one in the color I wanted, so I tried S&T. I drive past them every day and wanted to check it out and I'm so glad I did. The photo attached – on the left is the hydrangea from Lowe's… And on the right is from S&T. Obviously, their plant quality is top-tier and soon I'm gonna be buying another plant from them for the front of my house! Every time I've stopped in Cohen and his team have been incredibly friendly and helpful. I've even called them a few times for help/advice with my plants and they always deliver! Highly recommend!

We recently contracted with Shovel and Thumb to extend our patio, and we are more than pleased with the result. Starting with Nico, who worked very patiently with us to layout our new space and continuing with Koda and the gentleman that worked with him ( unfortunately I don’t know his name ) who worked tirelessly to get the work done - making suggestions along the way and always getting our approval for any changes made. Their pricing was comparable to other quotes that we got. We will definitely use them again in the future.

Sooooo I stopped here on my way to Ridgefield today and bought a few Lil starts. The staff person was very kind, he turned me onto a variety of species of every thing I asked him about. I'm anxious to try the "Mortgage Raiser tomato" and a type of Daphne that sounds beautifully fragrant. They mostly/as much as possible, sell organic. Super sweet plant spot!!! Also I bought a gorgeous plant exploding with little white bells.

We used Shovel and Thumb for our front yard landscaping project. Nico and Durant were friendly, knowledgable, and professional. They recommended low-maintenance plants for our consideration, and created a beautiful yard. We've received lots of compliments from our neighbors, and I have recommeneded them several times.

We ordered 1000 sq-ft of sod. It arrived the next day as promised in great condition. We rolled it out and we have an instant, weed-free lawn. We followed all recommended instructions and are very happy. Would definitely order from them again.

They did what they said they would do. You don’t always find that these days. They were on time, both for the estimate and the installation. They cleaned up after the installation — and they were nice people!

My husband went to get some bark chips in bulk from them yesterday and had a wonderful experience. He said they were super helpful and offered advice on exactly what we'll need for growing grass on a newly cleared section this fall. We'll definitely be going back. We were out of the house most of Saturday, so when we got home, I went to the basement to do some laundry. I found a trail of water running from the wall where the main water line enters the house, through the family room, and into the laundry room floor drain. I told my husband, Kim, about the problem, then went outside to shut off the water at the irrigation boxes. Upon opening them, I found them full of water, with the water still rushing out. Kim tried to turn off the water at the street, and managed to slow it down, but we called the water department to get it fully shut off.

Since Shovel & Thumb had just finished landscaping our front yard, including modifications to the irrigation boxes, I contacted Nico via text and emailed Durant about what was going on. The pipe fitting that joined modern pex tubing to the old galvanized pipe had broken. Nico called immediately, but I missed his call because I’d left my phone in another part of the house. When I picked it up, I had a voicemail and a text from Nico asking me to call back. When I did, he told me that Durant should be arriving at any time, and he’d be coming later because he was going to get parts for the repair.

Well, I certainly didn’t expect that. I was hoping that maybe someone could come out on Sunday afternoon, but thought it was more likely to be Monday, if we were lucky. But they came as soon as they could on Saturday night. And they fixed the pipe. And they were here until after 9:30 pm. On the night of a daughter’s birthday. Customer service? Oh, yes! Honestly, I was in awe. I am so grateful for their immediate response to my communications, and their hard work to get our water pipe repaired on a Saturday night.

Thank you, Nico and Durant. Because of you, Sunday, my only workday of the week, was relaxed and stress-free.
